On 21st June 2017 SPIS celebrated the International Yoga Day by hosting a special assembly coordinated by the Yoga Instructor of the school, Ms. Smitha. Ms. Serene Roy of class XI A delivered an enlightening speech on how yoga helps in maintaining the balance of our mind, body and soul. The yogic exercise of Pranayama was insisted upon and was performed by the audience. The prime source of attraction in the assembly was the Yoga display which was of 20 minutes duration. 40 students from class 1st to 10th merged sophisticated yoga postures together on stage and enthralled the spectators. Various asanas in yoga like trikonasana, shalabhasana, padahastasana, bhujangasana etc. performed by students, created a magnificent spectacle for the audience. The human formation for the word YOGA using the different asanas was a mind – boggling visual treat.

The assembly was honoured with the presence of Rev. Dr. Douglas Pinheiro, the Director of SPIS. Dr. Sheela Seth, the Principal appreciated the students for putting forward a remarkable performance on stage. She also quoted an incident from a life which stated that all human beings have immense physical strength within themselves. She emphasized on the power of our mind. “Our body is so flexible and it can do anything that our mind says. Through regular practise of Yoga one can live longer,” she added. The assembly gained momentum with the Welcome speech delivered by Ms. Treasa Maria of class XI A Ms. Merin Elizabeth of class IX A delivered the Vote of Thanks.
